The McLeod family joined our Earn While You Learn Parent Education Program during their last trimester of pregnancy and has been very active in individual and group classes at Legacy ever since. Born with a low birthweight, baby Righteous wasn’t gaining weight fast enough and the doctors diagnosed him Failure to Thrive.
“If he didn't make weight at his next weigh in we would be sent over immediately to the hospital for surgery to have the tube inserted and begin tube feeding him. With the pressure of everything we were facing it was terrifying. We had basically 3.5 days to get him to accept this new consistency. Tube feed formula is thick! Like so much thicker than any formula! He was not happy about the constant change and this one was his hardest.
Although after a few days he was taking it well by bottle. Come Friday, he made weight!! We were released to weekly weigh ins and NO TUBE NEEDED at this time! Our hearts were so happy and relieved. Until that first box of Fortini we got from his doctor ran out... then I was really freaking out! He wouldn't eat at all!
He ONLY wanted the Fortini. It had been approved through his insurance which of course, I couldn't find a pharmacy between Shawnee, OKC, Edmond, and Norman who had this or was able to get me my sons script. So we were reaching out to all the resources possible. His doctor was waiting for someone from Wisconsin to send him more and we weren't too sure how long that could take. I was waiting for WIC to approve his special formula and fulfill it so that it could be picked up in Moore. After a couple weeks it did come through. But my baby can't go a couple weeks without taking in any formula!! So I reached out to Legacy Parenting Center. I was pulling at strings and was down to my last few places to think to even try to calling. I was sure I was going to be turned down. I was losing hope and just knew what we were about to be facing...
We were horrified of what was to come! ...Although to our surprise the phone call with Legacy Parenting Center ended completely different than we had anticipated. We had to wait to hear back if it was guaranteed but that was farther than we had been getting anywhere else. I was beginning to feel hopeful again. A few hours later I got a call that they ordered me a box until WIC fulfills the order. They purchased this VERY expensive formula for my baby out of the kindness of their hearts! What a huge blessing that was to our family!
After a few weeks went by I was about to go pick up his Fortini from WIC in Moore. The staff at Legacy Parenting Center reached out and asked about if WIC was able to fulfill that order of Fortini. I let them know when my pick up date was. But the fact that they also reached out to make sure he was able to be taken care of or if we may need assistance again. They really helped my family through this trialing time.
Now, let's fast forward... Righteous is now 7 months old. He is THRIVING!! He was just released off Fortini a little over a month ago. He is doing so well! We have another check up coming up soon to check on how he's gaining weight.
My baby has been through alot, since his birth delivery. This is only a fragment of the story of his battle he's overcome...
He is definately our Righteous Legend!”
