Empowering Parents. Impacting Generations.

  • Growing Strong.

Brianna became a mom at 16 and found vital support in Legacy during a time of uncertainty. Over the years, Legacy provided essentials, guidance, and a sense of stability as her family grew. With their help, Brianna was able to focus on her children and pursue her education. Now working toward a degree in Child Development, her journey shows the lasting impact of compassionate support.

  • Hope Delivered.

The McLeod family joined our parenting program during pregnancy and turned to Legacy when their baby, Righteous, was diagnosed with Failure to Thrive. With no access to a critical formula, Legacy stepped in to provide it—helping him avoid surgery and begin to thrive. His family says Legacy offered not just resources, but hope.

  • Fatherhood Empowered.

When Cole learned he might gain full custody of his twin daughters, he turned to Legacy for support—and found the tools, resources, and confidence he needed to step into fatherhood. Through parenting classes, the diaper and car seat programs, and guidance on services like WIC, Legacy helped him feel prepared and supported every step of the way. Six months later, his daughters are thriving, and Cole credits Legacy for making the transition smoother and giving him peace of mind as a parent.

When Juliann welcomed her first child in 2020, the height of the pandemic made new motherhood feel especially isolating and uncertain. Now a mom of three, she reflects on how far she’s come—with the help of Legacy, which provided not only essential items, but also parenting classes, support groups, and a true sense of community.

She credits Legacy with helping her grow emotionally, gain confidence as a mom, and make bold decisions for her family’s well-being. “Legacy has helped me feel like I’m not alone,” she says. “It’s given me a sense of community and strength — exactly what I needed to keep going.”

"Legacy is like a second family to me—I basically grew up here.”

Chelsy first walked through Legacy’s doors in 2018 as a 19-year-old new mom looking for support. Six years later, with two children by her side, she reflects on how Legacy helped her grow into the confident mother she is today.

From baby supplies and breastfeeding support to CPR certification and a community that cared, Chelsea found more than just resources—she found belonging. Now, she shares Legacy with others, referring family and friends so they can experience the same care and connection.

After moving to Shawnee in 2012, I (Georgiana) was surprised to see there wasn’t a parenting center like the one I had been volunteering at in Ada. Kylie Teape and I started dreaming—talking, praying, and planting seeds. We spoke with a woman at the Avedis Foundation who believed in our vision. At first, we wanted to implement the “Earn While You Learn” program. But after touring the Infant Crisis Center in OKC, our vision grew: we wanted to include life skills like budgeting, job prep, and meal planning on a budget—anything that could help take the pressure off parents and give them tools for long-term success.

That’s how the name "Legacy" was born. Our dream was to help parents break cycles and build something better for the next generation.

We wrote a grant to Avedis for startup costs. Our first attempt was turned down, but we were encouraged to revise and resubmit. The second application was approved—an incredible milestone that gave us the foundation we needed to open our doors. We partnered with Frontline Shawnee, gathered private support, and stocked our little store with diapers, clothes, car seats, and cribs. Parents attending classes earned "Legacy Bucks" to shop for what their families needed. Watching them shop with pride—redeeming what they’d worked so hard for—was a beautiful reminder of why we started this in the first place.

In the beginning, we had one faithful client—a mom of five who showed up every single week. And over time, the seeds we planted began to bloom.

Handing things over to Lacey was bittersweet, but it was clear she was the right person to lead Legacy into its next chapter. Her heart, dedication, and leadership—along with a passionate team—have grown this center into something more impactful than we ever imagined.

Today, when I (Kylie) look at Legacy Parenting Center, I feel overwhelmed with gratitude. It’s become a life-changing resource not just for Shawnee, but for families across the state. It’s more far-reaching than we ever asked or imagined—and a true dream come true.
